death and loss

i was talking with some friends recently about loss. death, of course, is the most concrete and final loss, but really there is some loss in every change, even if it's just the loss of the status quo. every new beginning and new chapter includes as a part of it the death of the last. so while change is often very good, there's always some difficulty in it, even if it's not obvious at first.
