sometimes choosing hope puts you at a disadvantage. another person may have selfish motives and take advantage of you. or they may fail you. or maybe your dreams don't pan out the way you wanted them to. maybe logic seems to point to the improbability of a positive future. maybe motivation is difficult to find. maybe it's harder to invest time and energy into things than it once was. maybe it can become difficult to enjoy the things you normally like. maybe it can be difficult to rediscover what refuels you. maybe even the simplest, most basic of hopes can seem out of reach. it hurts so much more to hope and then be let down than to curb your expectations from the start . . . doesn't it?
even so, i think hope always is, and always must be, the correct answer.
hope and not-hope aren't the only options
ReplyDeletei've been thinking about and meaning to reply to this since you posted it, but i am very curious what you mean.
Deletei also find it important to remember that the way one feels is often not a good indicator of reality.
