As they emerged from the Sands of Time, the dancing light became even more dazzling than it had seemed from behind the sandstorm. Glad to get off of the Manticore, Albus looked around for the light’s source and saw that the it was coming from behind an old grandfather clock, centered on a huge wall full of clocks of various sizes and varieties. Looking at the grandfather clock, he noticed its face. Aesthetically, it was intriguingly designed. In fact, the face looked strangely human. Remembering about the light source, Albus tried to move the grandfather clock aside, but accidentally knocked it over in the process.
“Ouch!” said the clock.
Albus took a closer look at the clock’s strangely human face. “Merlin’s pants!” He exclaimed, “It looks almost like the Bloody Baron! Were all these clocks once real people?”
“Yes. The Baron is well known at Hogwarts, especially in the house of Slytherin. His suicide, however, is slightly less well-known,” mused Snape.
“Suicide?”
“Ah yes. The rash decisions of a violent lover caused his own death and the death of his beloved.” Snape smiled ruefully.
“That’s horrible!”
“And now,” the clock chimed in, “I am doomed to this form--the irony of a grandfather clock. Always ticking away, though my time is long gone. Every second, beating my own sides to pay for my crimes against my own body.”
“But you do still have an imprint in the real world,” Albus reassured him as he set the clock back in upright position.
“But alas! What good is even an imprint of a life isolated and self-destructed?”
Feeling great sorrow for the Baron, Albus turned away.
